It was business as usual at Oulton with Graham Scott topping the qualifying times by 1.9 seconds from John Avery's Ferrari 355. Next up were the 355's of Alan Newton and Les Charneca.
The pair of Minari's headed class B led by Mark Pollard from Andy Thompson. Adie Hawkins made his annual outing and promptly headed class D using a borrowed Alfa class F Alfa 33. Class E was comfortably headed by
Neil Smith with Roger Donnan in second. Mark Pollard set the early race pace, leading at the end of the first lap and holding until the Corse Stratos of Graham Scott took over. A little later the collective Ferraris
of Avery. Newton, Charneca and Gamski eased through the pack followed by the twin turbo Maserati Barchetta of Drummond Bone from Russ Yates 16 valve Alfa Sprint. Whilst Avery and Newton could match the pace of
Scott (and indeed put in quicker laps) his early advantage held allowing him to control the race and win by seven seconds. The battle between Avery and Newton was settled in Avery's favour whilst Mark Pollard held
on for a fine fourth place. The similar Minari of Thompson was shadowing Pollard until disturbing mechanical noises forced retirement. Also in trouble was Jackie Osborne who was running strongly until she was also
forced to retire with smoke billowing from her Alfa 156. As the race settled down a fascinating four-way contest emerged between Ray Foley, Westley Evans, Alan Bates and Emma Karwacki which was finally settled in
that order.
